Putting education at
the heart of communities
About The Tekanda Foundation
Founded in 2023, The Tekanda Foundation provides a range of free educational, vocational and recreational programs to support rural communities.
Our empowerment centre ‘Gamata Athak, located outside Ahangama on Sri Lanka’s southern coast now caters to over 400 women and children. Gamata Athak was named by the local community and means ‘a hand to the village’ elegantly reflecting our vision of local partnership and shared progress. We operate in collaboration with the Foundation of Goodness, a leading Sri Lankan charity with decades of experience in rural development.
Become a volunteer
Join the Tekanda Foundation team by becoming one of our volunteers at Gamata Athak. Our program helps both volunteers and students gain new skills, confidence, and opportunities.
