Tekanda Girls
Cricket Academy

The Tekanda Girls Cricket Academy was established to provide girls aged 7-16 from rural communities the opportunity to access the game of cricket. Their participation in the cricket academy also allows easy access to the range of educational programs at our Empowerment Centre, Gamata Athak.

The principal aims

Engender healthy lifestyle choices and encourage vocational and educational ambition

Provide a point of access for girls from rural communities across the region into cricket

Create a fun, healthy and inclusive after school club for girls

Identify and nurture talent who can then join existing elite player pathways

Tekanda Girls Academy UK Cricket Tour

1st-14th June

In June 2026, a squad representing the Tekanda Girls Cricket Academy and The Tekanda Foundation will be undertaking a tour of the United Kingdom. The tour coincides with the start of the Womens T20 World Cup in the UK and represents an extraordinary undertaking for a team drawn from rural communities in Sri Lanka. The touring party is being generously hosted by Marlborough College and supported by the MCC Foundation.
